ASA-International Projects in Bangladesh

US Soybean Oil Promotion

Under this project, several seminars and workshops are being organized throughout the country by the ASA-IM Bangladesh Team.  Covering almost all major cities of Bangladesh, the objective of this project is to promote the goodness and purity of US made soybean oil.  In this context, ASA-IM is also helping to introduce and popularize two US brands of soybean oil in Bangladesh. American Chef™, produced by the ADM Company, and Pure Wesson™, produced by Con Agra Food; both are now very popular in Bangladesh.

US Soy Food Promotion

Identity preserved (IP) soybeans and US-made isolated soy protein and other value added soy products are being promoted under this project.  ASA-IM organizes seminars, workshops and in-house training programs for Bangladeshi entrepreneurs, highlighting the use of soy in foods and the potential of soybean as a nutritional food component.  Under this project, ASA-IM has also organized food-related soy-processing workshops in all divisional cities and major towns. At present, ASA-IM is assisting Bangladeshi entrepreneurs in setting up small- to medium-sized soymilk operations. ASA-IM is emphasizing the use of US-made soy flakes and US-grown food grade soybeans as raw materials for the emerging soy milk industry.

Soybean in Feed Promotion

This project is designed to promote the use of US-grown soybeans in the poultry and aquaculture feed industries.  There is also a possibility of extending this effort to the livestock industry (dairy and beef).  Under this project, ASA-IM works with leading feed millers and poultry and aqua farmers, organizing seminars, workshops and in-house training – in which local and foreign experts participate – to promote soy utilization. At present, ASA-IM is working with a few feed mills to introduce and popularize extruded floating feed for aquaculture and composite feed for the dairy industry.  ASA-IM is also emphasizing the use of hi-pro soy meal and soy protein concentrate as a key ingredient of specialty feeds.

Soy Processing Support

Under this project, ASA-IM provides assistance to solvent extraction plants regarding the technical aspects of processing soybeans and, at the same time, works with them to encourage US imports.  ASA-IM also encourages Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to set up small-scale physical extraction plants to crush soybean for natural soybean oil and low fat soy meal.
